Steps Of
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
How To Perform
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) For Adult
The Main Steps
are:
-Airway-clear obstructed airways(mouth)
-Circulation -- start chest
compressions
-Breathing -- perform mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose breathing
1.First ,shake and check whether the person is conscious
or unconscious. Then check his pulse rate. For detail on how to check pulse
rate,click here.Carotid
pulse will be more better. Then place him in supine position.
2.Clear the airway.Clear any obstruction in the mouth.Tilt the head by
pushing forehead down and chin upwards. This step prevent the tongue to rolled
back into the track against epiglottis and block the airway.
3.Chest compression. This should be done at sternum ,between both
nipple.Remember, don't do it at the ribs because it can cause fracture of the
rib bone.Compress about deep of 5cm(2inch).This is because the heart located
5cm inwards from the skin.Do it about 15 -30 times then give mouth to mouth
breathing.
4.You can give mouth to mouth breathing or mouth to nose
breathing. In case mouth to mouth breathing ,you first should
close the nostril of nose with your finger and tilt the head upwards to open
the epiglottis .Then give a gentle air into mouth turn to the chest area to see
the movement of chest. If chest not moving, then your air did'n get into the
lungs.
5.At the same time while looking at chest, place your ears at the
persons mouth to hear the sound of air .Then continue with chest
compression,.Don't blow a very strong air because this can hurt the lungs.
6.Repeat about 5 cycles of 30 compressions and 2 rescue
breaths for about two to four minutes.
7. If an AED(automated external defibrillator) is available in the
immediate area, use it as soon as possible to jump-start the victim's heart.
8.If the person is conscious, place him in recovery position.
9.Before start all this, ask someone near by to call 911.
How To Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
For Babies
The Main Steps
are:
1.If a baby is unconscious, check her mouth for any items blocking her airwayand use your little finger to clear the blockage from her mouth.
2.Check for breathing by listen for the sound of the breath or
for movements of the chest.Fill your cheeks with air .
3.If baby is not breathing, place the baby on a flat surface, tilt her
head back very slightly, lift her chin to bring the tongue away from the back
of the throat, opening her airway. Take a breath and seal her mouth and nose
with your mouth. Blow gently and steadily for about one second. Watch for the
rise and fall of the chest; take another breath and repeat the sequence.
3.Locate a position in centre of the chest.Position two fingers in the
centre of baby’s chest and give 30 compressions at a rate of approximately 100
per minute. Each compression should depress the chest by about one third. For
every 30 compressions, 2 Rescue Breaths need to follow.Continue resuscitation
(30 compressions to 2 rescue breath) without stopping until help arrives.Remember, for
child and babies, compression should be gentle or use fingers, not palm.
4.If baby is breathing, place her in the recovery position and check her regularly for continued signs of life until the ambulance arrives.
