"What's our population?"he asked.
"About 32m uncle,"I answered.
"What if every one of them pay Rm1 tax per day,replacing the current tax system."
I looked at him wondering if it's a statement or a question.
He continued, "How much will be the collection for a month ?"
"If one day ,it's RM32m,in a month it will be about RM960m."I replied looking at him.
"So how much would it be in a year?"he questioned with a proud look.
I was flabbergasted for a moment.My age is his experience right,I told myself.
"Imagine that 1 trillion national debt.With this system we could pay the debt easily and the small tax amount would be less troublesome for everyone.Family of 5 will pay only about RM150 per month,"he exclaimed.
"But that would be beneficial for the rich business man in a bad way right?"I asked and his answer was a single 'No'.
I rechecked since the world is in our hand;our smartphone and internet.
2017's tax collection was RM123b.
In 2008,direct and indirect tax without non tax revenue was about RM109b.
So as per uncle's dreamy system,per year it would be about RM11b only.
While he is still maintaining that proud look,I looked at him and learnt something.Sometime certain things that we listen,be it a bad news,a big issue ,something that sounds great or too good initially,when we do the math and a little research,it isn't that legit or seems like an issue that we should waste our energy worrying about.
