Intermittent Fasting and Stress

"Intermittent fasting won't be useful for you I guess,"I said.
"Why?"she asked.
"Fasting is a stress upon the body, just like exercise. So it can elevate cortisol levels. You see,one of the cortisol's effects is that it raises blood sugar. In someone with blood sugar regulation issues, fasting can actually make them worse,"I explained.

"But Lakdhes,I don't have diabetes,"she said looking at me innocently.

"But you guys went through tremendous amount of stress daily especially in morning and evening,"I said.
"I don't get you,"she said with a confused tone.
"Come let's go for a walk,"I said and started to walk slowly looking at the trees around the park .
"It's so peaceful right?"I asked.
She just sighed. "Do you realize that you can't enjoy the peacefulness around you.And do you know why?"
"Why?"she questioned.
"Work pressure is one and there is another factor that hampering your fasting."
She was listening quietly.
"The morning traffic. It drives people crazy.Same shit  everyday. It puts lots of stress upon body.
"Under stressful conditions, cortisol provides the body with glucose by tapping into protein stores via gluconeogenesis in the liver.Elevated cortisol over the long term consistently produces glucose, leading to increased blood sugar level and other diseases. But for now,you can't fast because one of the end result of these actions can be an increase in appetite and can cause you craving for sweet, high-fat, and salty foods."
"Now you know why you bought a Cadbury Oreo on the way back from work after a long 2 hours of traffic jam.Your will power will be  drained and your cortisol is the culprit." "What should I do?"she asked.
"Haha,I don't think so you can do something about the traffic.People who start their day with meditation response differently.Try it."
