Ouija Board
The Ouija board is a flat board marked
with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0-9, the words "yes",
"no", "hello" and "goodbye", along with
various symbols and graphics. It uses a planchette or movable indicator to
indicate the spirit's message by spelling it out on the board during a séance.
Participants place their fingers on the planchette and it is moved about the
board to spell out words.
A
Ouija board is commonly used in divination and spiritualism, often by friends
out to have some fun. Sometimes, users become convinced they've been contacted
by the spirit world. The users ask a "spirit" a question
and the pointer slides until it stops over "yes" or "no" or
a letter on the board. Sometimes, the selections "spell out" an
answer to a question asked.
Some
users believe that paranormal or supernatural forces are at work in spelling
out Ouija board answers. Skeptics believe that those using the board either
consciously or unconsciously move the pointer to what is selected.Ouija boards
have been the source of inspiration for literary works, used as guidance in
writing, or as a form of channeling literary works. As a result of Ouija boards
becoming popular in the early 20th century, by the 1920s many
"psychic" books were written of varying quality often initiated by
Ouija board use.
History OF Ouija board:
During
the late 19th century, planchettes were widely sold as a novelty. The
businessmen Elijah Bond and Charles Kennard had the idea to patent a planchette
sold with a board on which the alphabet was printed. The patentees filed on May
28, 1890 for patent protection and thus had invented the first Ouija board.
Issue date on the patent was February 10, 1891. Bond was an attorney and was an
inventor of other objects in addition to this device. An employee of Kennard,
William Fuld took over the talking board production and in 1901, he started
production of his own boards under the name "Ouija". Kennard claimed
he learned the name "Ouija" from using the board and that it was an
ancient Egyptian word meaning "good luck." When Fuld took over
production of the boards, he popularized the more widely accepted etymology,
that the name came from a combination of the French and German words for
"yes". The Fuld name would become synonymous with the Ouija board, as
Fuld reinvented its history, claiming that he himself had invented it. The
strange talk about the boards from Fuld's competitors flooded the market and
all these boards enjoyed a heyday from the 1920s through the 1960s. Fuld sued
many companies over the "Ouija" name and concept right up until his
death in 1927. In 1966, Fuld's estate sold the entire business to Parker
Brothers, which was sold to Hasbro in 1991, and which continues to hold all
trademarks and patents.
How to use it:
Once
you buy a Ouija board, invite a friend over.Dont play it alone. They are
inexpensive items, that are found at some head shops. A lot of people may
advise you that they are a waste of money, and you're better off making your
own. When making your own you need to write: yes, no, the numbers 0-9, letters
a-z, and goodbye. You can also add other words like maybe or sometimes to the
side of the board, only if you want to.Then find a suitable place to
play.
Then
once you find the appropriate room have a candle somewhere nearby you. Use a single white candle; white in witchcraft
is used for protection and purity; even though black is used for energy; black
is also used for dark, evil, and black magic. .Create a circle to keep yourself safe from any unwanted energies, when dealing with the spiritual realm conjuring up malicious beings is a possibility and this is just a precaution one must take. Sit facing each other, knees touching if possible.. The circle can be physical made up of salt or rocks, or it could be a metaphysical boundary of white or blue protective light.
Place
your index on the planchette on the board. Slowly move the
planchette in circles to let the board warm up, and concentrate on what you
want to ask. Rest your fingers on it firmly but without much force (if you hold
it too stiffly, then it won't move as easily). Eventually, the planchette
should move to letters. It will take sometime so don't expect the spirit to
answer immediately.
Set
one person as the medium. They are the ones to officially ask the questions to
the board and are basically in charge of the seance. You might want someone else
to write down what the pointer is spelling out, as it moves quickly
sometimes.Make sure you are not scared because even the spirit is alive as you
as it is responding back to you.If at anytime you get scared, or feel that the
session is out of hand, simply close the board by moving the pointer to
"goodbye" and say "We're leaving now, rest in peace. Dont ask the spirits to prove its existence, as
doing so can get evil spirits into your home and about your death or another's death. To prevent evil spirits coming to the board, begin and end a session with a prayer. The existence of ghosts, demons, and the supernatural is disputed. Don't take everything for granted.Enjoy your game.
